What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathic medicine is based on treating the cause of an illness and aims to treat your body as a whole. If you treat the cause and not just a symptom, you end up with long standing results and an understanding of preventing recurrence of your symptoms.  Your disease, illness or pain that you, the patient presents with may have a singular cause, but often has many different causes. The causes may be chemical, structural or even emotional. The aim of the Naturopath is to discover the root cause/s of the illness and  then remedy the situation by removing the cause. For example: improving poor lifestyle or dietary choices, reducing acidity, removing toxicity from the body and improving musculo-skeletal disturbances, improving nutritional deficiencies by implementing nutritional or herbal supplements, improving diet and implementing exercise . This results in freeing up the body’s inbuilt ability to heal itself by rebuilding itself with better cells – cell by cell.

Naturopathic theory dictates that the human body has the ability to heal itself if it is supplied with the correct environment and the basic ingredients that can build new healthy cells. This is based on the age old doctrine of “vis medicatrix naturae” – a phrase attributed to Hippocrates, meaning that organisms contain “healing powers of nature”.

Naturopathy can alleviate a wide range of symptoms and conditions and suits all ages . You don’t not need to be unwell to use naturopathy as it is a good tool for prevention of disease. Some of the most common problems I treat include fatigue, anxiety and other stress related problems, digestive ailments, and all hormonal disorders including menopause, adrenal fatigue and thyroid issues.

As Your naturopath, I will use a natural and individualised treatment to initiate your body’s own healing capacity. The causes of your symptoms will be treated and not just the symptoms.  I will  take into consideration the physical, emotional and  mental aspects that impact  your health. The long term goal is prevention – orientation medicine to maintain your optimal health.
